Stepping stones
As my third work of 2026, Stepping Stones marked a pivotal moment in my practice. It was created during a period of uncertainty, as I found myself bridging two very different artistic methods. I was blending the hand-painted acrylic and oil techniques I had explored over the previous three to four years with new resin pouring methods I was only just beginning to understand. Every stage felt experimental - sometimes frustrating, but always filled with excitement.
Despite the uncertainty I was navigating internally, this piece came together with an unexpected sense of ease. From the first layer to the last, I felt excited by what was unfolding. Rather than resisting the process, I found myself trusting it. As the work evolved, the detailed line work brought a clarity I hadn't experienced before, revealing the direction I wanted my practice to take.
In many ways, Stepping Stones gave me permission to close one chapter and begin another.
Although I still have a deep appreciation for the intricate hand-painted line work, I haven't returned to it since creating this piece. It became the bridge between what had been and what was yet to come.
Looking back, I see Stepping Stones as both a farewell and a beginning. It holds the energy of transition, growth, and trust - the moment when one path gives way to, and encourages the next.
