Biography
Mitch Gobel is an Australian artist based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.
Working primarily with resin, pigment and industrial materials, his practice centres around a balance between intention and release. Each work begins with a level of control, but gradually shifts as the materials move, react and settle on their own, forming compositions that feel both considered and unresolved.
Gobel’s approach has developed over time through repetition and observation rather than formal training. His work is shaped by time spent in natural environments - not through dramatic moments, but through quieter experiences of stillness, where attention is placed on how things shift, settle and exist without interference.
Art became something he returned to when things weren’t working, and over time, something he came to rely on. It’s from this experience that the idea that art can save you has formed - not as a concept, but as something lived.
Rather than directing meaning, his work is intended to create space. Something viewers can sit with, return to, and interpret through their own experience.
Gobel has been practicing for over a decade, with his work held in private collections across 60 countries, and a strong audience in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
